Annual National Surgical Conference 2021
This conference is jointly organised by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Sheffield Students Surgical Society. The theme this year is ‘Breaking the mould’.
The conference this year will be virtual and will consist of lectures from expert consultants from various specialties followed by research presentations and practical workshops. Delegates will receive a certificate of attendance.
All delegates must book their place via the RCSEd website.
Swann-Morton – Care of the Cutting edge
An introduction to scalpel technique and blade theory.
BBraun – Science of the Needle & Suture
An introduction to Suturing and how to effectively use your needle and suture.
Hand ties and Basic suturing skills
An introduction to suturing and hand ties. No previous experience required.
Scrubbing in and maintaining the sterile field
This workshop will cover the basics about maintaining the sterile field and scrubbing in.
This is a key skill any medical student needs to know. No previous experience required.
Previous suturing experience is required, this workshop will build on existing
Simulated dissection of the neck, using porcine (pig) tissue.
Coronary artery bypass grafts
This workshop aims to explain the process of CABG while allowing you to get some
hands-on experience of fine suture work in cardiac surgery.
This is a Key skill in ENT surgeries; this workshop aims to simulate the small working
environment, allowing you to practice deep suture work.
Small sutures and delicate work are necessary for successful artery repair. This
will go through how this can best be achieved.
Simulated repair of tendons, using porcine (pig) tissue. No surgical experience needed.
