Women in Surgery Series
Our next surgeon for this week is Miss Meg Birks, an Orthopaedic Hand Surgeon
I am an Orthopaedic Hand & Wrist surgeon at the Sheffield Hand Centre where I have been a consultant for for 11 years. Part way through a basic surgical training rotation I realised Orthopaedics was the speciality for me. I settled on Hand Surgery fairly quickly My registrar training was in the Oxford region and I spent a year on fellowship in Manchester, which was a great experience. I am now Clinical Lead for the Hand Service in Sheffield in addition to being Educational Supervisor for our Interface Fellow and Core Trainee. I enjoy promoting patient centred care through teaching and training as well as service improvement in our unit. Out of work I gardening, walking our dogs and live music, especially rock!
